This fall was a time
for powerful conversations.

This fall, students across campus, in particular women of color, spoke out about their experiences, and I was among the many Yalies listening hard. Marginalized groups on campus weren’t just hurting—they weren’t being treated equitably by Yale. And even though my privilege has shielded me from a lot of the pain and frustration felt by people of color and other marginalized groups on Yale’s campus, it still stirred a deep frustration in me and a will to wake up, speak up, and be an ally.

Because of my privilege, I’ve had access to a different and better version of Yale than other students, and that’s not fair, it’s not okay, and it has to change. I’ve never felt uncomfortable on Halloween because a costume mocked my culture, and I’ve never had trouble finding a class where I could read texts written by people who I identified with. But too many Yalies have. That’s not fair, it’s not okay, and it has to change. I’ve never had to avoid a dining hall, a party, or a class because I worry about running into someone who has sexually harassed or assaulted me, but too many Yalies have. That’s not fair, it’s not okay, and it has to change.

These are the most important issues. These are the issues I will fight the hardest for as your YCC President. Because if we’re not making a better Yale for everyone—for students of color, especially women of color, for students of all genders and orientations, for students of all incomes, and for students with disabilities-—we’re not making a better Yale.

Racial Justice and Equity

I want to go to a Yale where everyone, regardless of race and ethnicity, feels that this is our Yale, we belong here, and we are respected, supported, and loved.

A Safe & Equal Sexual Climate

I want to go to a Yale where students of all genders and sexual orientations feel safe, and where Yalies who choose to be sexually active have safe and consensual sex.

LGBTQ Resources

I want to go to a Yale where LGBTQ students have access to safe and inclusive spaces, resources that meet their needs, and a culture of respect for their identities.

Financial Aid

I want to go to a Yale where no one is forced to choose between participating in extracurriculars and paying their student effort.

Mental Health

I want to go to a Yale where students who need quality mental health care can access it quickly and easily, without stigma.

Accessibility & Support for
Students with Disabilities

I want to go to a Yale where everyone, including and especially students with disabilities, can safely navigate and fully participate in the Yale experience.
